Reflections in Vietnam After reading The Things They Carried by Tim OBrien, I have taken a whole new outlook on spends and the Vietnam War. Reading the different short stories Tim had sh ard, I flat myself bond with him a little as I followed him on his adventure throughout Vietnam. Even though this book is bear witness as fiction, I know there is a hold on of truth behind it and I know that even though the Vietnam War happened about 20 years ago, there be current soldiers who face the same problems the soldiers of the past had gone through. I grew up with parents who werent very concerned with politics; we neer really discussed wars or anything like that. I knew war wasnt a good thing, but I as well possible action that it didnt have that a good deal of an exploit on mountain who served. That was my get childish ignorance, I suppose. In fact, the word soldier was only if a word to me. I never gave much thought to who those soldiers were or why they fought i n the wars. This novel has do me think otherwise. These men, no these boys were drafted and sent to a foreign area where they were given guns and told to kill as umteen as they could. disdain their macho tough guy routine, they were just boys. They were more than probable frightened. While receiving his draft notice, Tim says, There should be a law, I thought.
If you support a war, if you think its worth the price, thats fine, but you have to put your own precious fluids on the line. You have to head for the front and vacate up with invertebrate foot unit and help swill the blood. And you have to bring along your wife, or your kids , or your lover. A law, I thought (OBrien 42! ) He is saying that he shouldnt have to mesh a war that technically isnt his and that he doesnt take to die for a drift he does not support, which I agree with completely. I also find it ironic how the States was, or is, the Land of the Free only back then, we forced those boys to grow up way to devalued and we forced them to fight and die for our country....If you want to get a full essay, rove it on our website: BestEssayCheap.com
